Things that Caught My Eye: The Game of Thrones Edition

I’ve been trying to write a blog post for the last two hours about something serious and worthy, but I keep getting distrated by Game of Thrones related videos on the interwebs. Hope you enjoy! Official post coming tomorrow.

And by Game of Thrones related videos, I mean I’m just watching post after post from Emergency Awesome that Charlie has done on GoT in the last year. I should feel ashamed, but I don’t. If you want to catch up before the new season, do a deep dive into the trailers, or go through some aspect of the back story you feel you don’t understand, check him out first.

A perfect day for a Dothraki wedding.

I was inspired to go to Malta in 2014 because of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is a pretty typical way for me to get trip inpiration. When I got there though, I got to see many of the filming locations for the first season of Game of Thrones, which was even more awesome. The Azure Window on Gozo served as a wedding backdrop, and the streets of Mdina were used for King’s Landing. Here’s a great post from The Travel Tester on Game of Thrones Locations on Malta and Gozo.

I also endulged in Postmates’s GoT related promo Game of Cones, which they describe as:

This weekend, play the Game of Cones with Postmates.

Starting today, we’re delivering $2 pints of ice cream and a box of cones across the realm. Just find the Game of Cones store on Postmates and swear your loyalty to House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen or any of the other houses of Westeros.

Then we’ll bring you an ice cream flavor based on the house you pledge allegiance to. Just remember— no matter how you play the Game of Cones, one thing is certain: Ice cream is coming.

Valid Friday through Sunday. $3 delivery fee applies.

I really wanted Strawberry, which pledged me to House Lannister. I’m cool with that. Postmates is a delivery service that’s a mix of GrubHub and Uber. They can be pricey, but their promotions are usually awesome. If you haven’t used them yet and they are in your area, here’s a coupon for $10 off.

If Strawberry Ice Cream doesn’t quite get you in a GoT mood, check out The Inn at the Crossroads the official GoT food blog.

So now it’s back to serious work for me So I’m going to dive back into Emergency Awesome videos and get an ice cream headache in anticipation of the premier.

Is there a show or movie that’s inspired you to travel somewhere new?
